Spring into a cleaner yard!
Spring time is on the way, we’re sure of it! Though Nebraska will likely put us through a few more winters, we’re still thinking about what we need to do to get your yard ready for the warmer temperatures. Read more to find out what a professional landscaper recommends to get your lawn tidied up before spring has fully sprung.
At JB’s landscapes & lawn care, we focus on 6 major categories when performing our spring clean-ups.
General Yard Cleanup: grab some bags, rakes, and gloves. Depending on how well you did with your fall cleanup, you may/may not have a lot of extra leaves to rake up. If you do, in fact, have a lot of leaves, remove them sooner rather than later as they suffocate your lawn. All sticks & pinecones need to be gathered and disposed of accordingly.
Bushes & Shrubs Cutbacks: remove all dead and decaying branches from your trees, shrubs, and bushes. Pruning back trees and shrubs will help to get rid of the branches affected by the brutal winter months. Be cautious as to not over trim, as you will affect the potential blooming pattern of both. Less is More.
Perennials & Grasses Cutbacks: perennials need to be cut & divided on an as needed basis. Pruning these plants will allow for your other shrubs to not be suffocated and to grow accordingly. Regular pruning allows your yard to look tidy and clean.
Cleanup Around Plant Beds: your end game here is to clean and tidy this area. More importantly, to remove anything that is dead and may be smothering the progress of desired vegetation in that area. This includes leaves, foliage, spent annuals, and mulch.
Remove & Renew Mulch, Clean Up Edging: Now it’s time to focus on the removal of any weathered mulch. Once removed, and prior to installing new, vibrant mulch, review your edge. The edging should remain consistent heights around the bed. This may require you to bring in dirt, raise, or lower the existing edge. Once the edge is staked into place, it is now time to add the mulch.
Properly Dispose of the Waste: beginning April 1st, Lincoln’s garbage collectors will collect yard waste separate from household garbage for a fee. For more information, check out the City of Lincoln’s website. If you hire JB’s Landscapes for your spring cleanup, we’ll remove all of the waste & cover the dump fees for you, typically a $50-100 value.
JB’s Landscapes & Lawn Care is your One-Stop-Shop for all landscaping & lawn care needs. Spring & Fall maintenance is one of our many scopes that we complete. It’s one of our favorites too, clearing out the old and allowing space for the new.
A request for a spring or fall cleanup can be a one-time request, or we can include it in part of an annual maintenance contract that includes a multitude of other services such as aeration, overseeding, irrigation, fertilization, and regular lawn care maintenance.
